A caricature of Gilbert and Sullivan

Gilbert & Sullivan 101
Compiled by John Kenrick

(Copyright 2000, Revised 2003)

Long before Rodgers & Hammerstein or Webber & Rice, two men of extraordinary talent and imagination created a series of fourteen stage musicals that delighted the world. William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan made musical theatre a key part of popular culture in Britain and America. After more than a century, the best of their shows are still entertaining audiences.

While there are several fine websites dedicated to the G&S "canon," Musicals101.com would not be complete without a detailed discussion of their work. This tribute is offered with affection and unending admiration for these men, their legacy, and their legions of dedicated fans the world over.
