Gertie
Millar reigned as London's premier musical ingénue in The
Quaker Girl (1910), Gipsy Love (1912), The Dancing
Mistress (1912) and a major revival of The Country Girl
(1913). World War I brought a change in popular tastes, and after
appearing in several quick failures, Millar left the stage at age 29. |
Soprano
Ellaline Terriss co-starred with
husband Seymour Hicks in a series of London hits, including The Shop
Girl (1895), The Circus Girl (1896), A Runaway Girl
(1898) and The Cherry Girl (1903). |
Bessie
Love found fame on the silent screen, but she made musical history
as the star of MGM's Academy Award winning hit Broadway Melody
(1929). She ended her long film career with a cameo in the gay bathhouse
comedy The Ritz (1976). |
